Recommended game: Demon’s Souls (and why Yahtzee is no longer relevant to gaming)

January 26, 2010

It’s rare that a game comes along and is so frustrating, yet so fun at the same time. Meet Demon’s Souls, the hack’n’slash, action RPG for the Playstation 3.

The story is pretty straight-forward, an evil fog sets on the world and with it, brings a horde of demons. Your job is to take them down and restore peace. Progressing through the game however, is not so straight-forward. (Yet not as difficult and frustrating as the pussy, Yahtzee would tell you…)

Top 5 PS3 games of 2009

December 20, 2009

2009 has been one of the better years to be a gamer. Never have we felt so out of pocket with such a wide variety of great games to choose from. Me, being spoilt like I am, pretty much bought all of the games I wanted and will probably get to them by the time I retire but there were definitely a few standouts as far as my Playstation 3 collection goes.

So counting down the top 5…

“Play, Create, Share.” – ModNation Racers impressions

December 19, 2009

In the same way that the Playstation 3’s LittleBigPlanet took over the world with it’s user generated content and broad appeal, Sony is set to do it all again with ModNation Racers. Think Mario Kart and LittleBigPlanet mixed together and you’re on the right track.

Due to release in the first quarter of 2010, I have spent the last 24 hours playing the exclusive beta and am very much impressed!

In-game screenshots - one of the best features in modern games

COD = Campers Of Duty

November 26, 2009

As the title says…

I’ve been playing the new Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 game on PS3 a lot lately and am really quite disappointed.

Never before have I seen so much camping and scared hiding. You get the UAV/GPS and the red dots (indicating players) do not move. Ever. Well, not until the lone person running around the map kills them.

A sad day in pro sports…

November 26, 2009

Allen Iverson has announced his retirement from the National Basketball Association.

AI in just one of the three games he suited up for the Grizzlies, before deciding that playing a few minutes off the bench was not right for him at this stage of his career.

Being a huge AI fan, this is certainly a sad day if the retirement lasts.

Iverson is definitely a love him or hate him type of guy but I’ve always thought most of his critics have been wrong, or rather too hard on him and often misunderstood him and his situation. Read the rest of this entry »

Random thought: Guys and Twilight

November 23, 2009

I had this thought after hearing a guy on the street the other day, asked by his mate what he thinks of ‘this whole Twilight thing’. The guy answered very abruptly, ‘I wouldn’t know. I’ve never seen it’.

The first thing that came to mind was, any guy who says they have never seen Twilight is either a liar or has never had a girlfriend since the movie came out. Read the rest of this entry »

We play games to have fun… but playing well is more fun!

November 23, 2009

One of my better games during my Battlefield 1943 (PSN) addiction:

Pity my team didn't provide much help

Random stuff: WoW screens

November 20, 2009

Some random screen grabs from my World of Warcraft adventures…

Horde assassination attempt on Stormwind King... got him down to 1% yet failed!

If you can't beat them - dance with them! Me dancing with some Horde outside of ZF.

The best thing about Balloon Boy?

October 17, 2009

Now when you’re at home or out and about and you hear screaming kids, you can say to their parents… “shut them up, or go put them in a balloon or something”

I’ve just about given up on Play-Asia

October 14, 2009

Play-Asia – a seemingly great way to shop for videogames. You can import stuff that is either hard to find or never to be released in your country and find good bargains due to positive currency conversions or full-English, region free Asian versions. If you are patient… Read the rest of this entry »
